At Triniti Home Health and Hospice, it is our mission to provide holistic, compassionate care to those we serve. Over the decades, we have done so in a number of ways. Recently, we’ve added a couple of volunteer-run programs that aim to provide hospice patients with additional support and enrichment. Keep reading to learn more about each and how these enhanced volunteer services from Triniti can benefit you or a loved one.
Those who are familiar with our work at Triniti know that we have a supportive volunteer program to enhance the care we provide to patients in hospice. We recently introduced volunteer opportunities with pet therapy and virtual reality programs to provide companionship, comfort, and engaging experiences that can help enhance the quality of life for our hospice patients. We are excited about these capabilities and the benefits they offer.
Spending time with animals can help individuals feel less isolated or lonely, providing joy and a sense of purpose. So, when Triniti was approached about the idea of pet therapy, or animal-assisted therapy, we thought it would be a great fit.
A network of professionals and volunteers at Northland Animal Assisted Therapy understand the importance of the human-animal bond and the power it has over mind, body, and spirit. They connect animals with patients to help spread joy, decrease pain, and improve quality of life.
Animals love unconditionally and offer companionship free of judgement, and sometimes that’s exactly what a person needs. Studies show that forming connections with animals offers a host of health benefits, including:
In addition, petting a dog can trigger the release of hormones responsible for feeling happy and relaxed. And the vibration from a cat’s purr offers its own calming effects, helping to lower blood pressure and aid in healing.
Many hospice patients are no longer able to get out and experience some of the activities they once enjoyed. But with help from the Boundless Memories Project, we’re able to bring new and familiar adventures to those patients through virtual reality.
Using a specialized headset and ultrarealistic visuals, this virtual world immerses hospice patients in any type of worldly—or otherworldly—setting to explore, revisit, experience again, or experience for the first time. From favorite family vacation spots to never-before-seen landmarks and more, patients have the ability to travel anywhere, any time.
Facilitated by Triniti volunteer Jonathan Cisco, PhD, this project can be life-changing for any patient, especially those with limited mobility. Volunteers are trained to administer these technical virtual reality experiences, guiding patients along the way for a seamless and memorable journey. Please note, however, that some medical or physical conditions may limit patient participation.
Caring is our calling at Triniti Home Health and Hospice, and we’ve upped the ante on providing enhanced volunteer services to benefit hospice patients with additional support and improved quality of life. We look forward to sharing the joy of animal-assisted therapy and virtual reality adventures with our hospice patients.
